The indigenous Mayan communities in the highlands of Guatemala live in extreme poverty and are marginalized in their own country. Global climate change with frequent, severe storms and droughts has been exacerbating the precarious food situation for years. Deforestation due to uncontrolled fires and overexploitation of natural resources and arable land have resulted in a large rural exodus. The passing on of indigenous knowledge about nature to the next generation is at risk
In order to contribute to poverty reduction, sustainable land management and a sufficient, balanced diet, we support residents in establishing climate-resilient and sustainable farming practices, offer training and thus also contribute to the preservation of biodiversity.
