We promote biodiversity in the food industry. To this end, we implement measures and projects along the supply chain. In this way, we are counteracting the extinction of species.
Biodiversity gives us clean air, clean water, food and medicine. But it is in danger. One million species are threatened with extinction worldwide. The trend is increasing worldwide. The food industry and agriculture are the sectors most dependent on biodiversity. At the same time, they contribute significantly to its loss.
For this reason, the Food for Biodiversity association was founded on Species Conservation Day 2021 by numerous organizations and companies. With this association, we are jointly implementing measures to protect biodiversity in the food industry. The members integrate criteria along the supply chain into their strategies and guidelines. Farmers are supported in implementing the measures and training is provided. Consumers are informed about the importance of the topic. The goals are monitored.
Project area
Goals
We bring about concrete improvements in biodiversity along agricultural supply chains – through recognized criteria, monitoring approaches and practical measures at agricultural level.
We are creating a common basis on which companies, standards, agriculture and science can agree – for comparable, effective and scalable biodiversity measures.
We strengthen collaborations and accelerate the implementation of successful solutions – from pilot projects to industry-wide roll-outs.
