The project promotes nature-based solutions for the restoration of lakes in Europe. The measures will improve the ecological status of lakes and protect their ecosystem services, biodiversity and natural resources.
Nature-based solutions for lake restoration will be implemented at three demonstration sites in Italy, Germany and Romania and replicated in three other European countries. The project builds on the “4 Returns Framework for Landscape Restoration”, a practical method for finding sustainable, long-term solutions at landscape level, with the aim of achieving four types of returns: Inspiration, Social Benefits, Natural Restoration and Financial Gains.
As part of the project, we will involve stakeholders from each country as well as civil society to ensure the acceptance and long-term sustainability of the project. These approaches will be complemented by modeling activities and dissemination of knowledge on nature financing.
