Gold for Our Mangrove Project in the Dominican Republic

The Global Nature Fund (GNF) is delighted to have received a special award: Our joint project, “TUI Forest Dominican Republic,” won a gold award in the “Regenerative Tourism” category at the ICRT Responsible Tourism Awards for the “Rest of the World” region.

The prestigious, globally recognized award from the International Center for Responsible Tourism (ICRT) honors projects that go far beyond traditional nature conservation. The focus is on a tourism model that actively regenerates ecosystems while simultaneously strengthening both nature and local communities.

Together with our partner, CEBSE, Inc. With support from the TUI Care Foundation, the GNF is working in the Dominican Republic to protect and restore mangrove forests. In addition to the environmental benefits, the focus is on people: nature-based tourism, targeted educational programs, and sustainable sources of income create long-term opportunities for local residents.

Outlook: Awards Ceremony in November

This award is already a significant milestone for the project. In November, the gold medalists will compete on the international stage against the gold medalists from five other regional competitions in Latin America, Africa, Europe, the Indian subcontinent, and Southeast Asia. We’re curious to see how our project will fare in its category.

We would like to thank the ICRT jury for this valuable recognition and the TUI Care Foundation for submitting the project.
