End-of-Season Milestone: “Drinking Cups for Drinking Water” Breaks the 800,000-Euro Mark!

The soccer season is over—and for our “Cups for Drinking Water” project, it ended with a historic record! Thanks to the tremendous support on game day, we have reached an incredible milestone: Since the project began in August 2009, we have raised a total of over 800,000 euros in donations!

A small cup with a huge impact!
What starts on a small scale at the stadium—namely, the decision to donate the cup deposit to a good cause after the final whistle—ends up changing entire lives around the world.

A huge thank you goes out to the Hannover 96 fans, who show their passion game after game, as well as to our tireless volunteers. Without their dedicated efforts at every home game, this success would not have been possible.

Here’s what we’ve achieved together:

  • Total proceeds of over 800,000 € from cup deposit donations.
  • 200 drinking water systems (wells, pumps, boreholes) were built or repaired in 9 African countries.
  • As a result, more than 150,000 people—mostly children—have gained permanent access to clean drinking water.

Water is a human right. It means health, education, and opportunities for the future. With every cup donated, we are collectively making a direct contribution to UN Sustainable Development Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation for All.

The season is over, but the aid continues. Learn more about the background, the projects we support, and what’s in store for the new season.
