17th International Living Lakes Conference 2026: Heading to India and the Sundarbans
From December 1 to 4, 2026, the Living Lakes Network will bring together international experts in Kolkata and the Indian Sundarbans to advance local innovations for global climate and water conservation. Nearly 30 years after its first conference, the global network—with over 130 member organizations—is returning to Asia. In collaboration with our Indian partner organization, the Nature, Environment & Wildlife Society (NEWS), and with funding from the International Climate Initiative (IKI) (“Biodiversity & Climate Protection through Living Lakes — Global Nature Fund”), this year’s conference is dedicated to the theme:“Resilient Lake and Wetland Landscapes: Scaling Up Locally Driven Innovation for Biodiversity and Climate”
The conference’s main topics:
- Flagship Project: Sundarbans— Field Trips and Best-Practice Examples from One of the World’s Most Ecologically Significant and Most Threatened Wetland Landscapes.
- Four key areas: political framework conditions, capacity building (including through the Living Lakes Academy), innovative financing models, and global knowledge transfer.
- Looking to the Future: Special emphasis is placed on the active role of young people and women in protecting resilient lake regions.
