“Places full of life”: Touring exhibition opens in the Münster Rieselfelder Ramsar site
Wetlands are fascinating habitats that protect the climate, preserve biodiversity and tell cultural history. The new exhibition explains why their protection is more important than ever – and how we can all contribute. The traveling exhibition Rieselfelder Münster shows impressively how important such habitats are.
Münster Rieselfelder – a place teeming with life as a stage for the protection of biodiversity: On March 5, the traveling exhibition “Places full of life: Wetlands of International Importance in Germany” opened at the local Rieselfeldhof information center. This also brings one of the most important nature conservation projects in North Rhine-Westphalia into the public eye. The transformation of the former sewage treatment plant into a mosaic of 90 ponds, wide meadows and reed beds is considered an ecological success story. The Münster Rieselfelder area is now an internationally protected habitat under the umbrella of the International Convention on Wetlands (Ramsar Convention).
As part of the opening ceremony, the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN) provided valuable insights into the national implementation of the Ramsar Convention – the world’s most important treaty for the protection of wetlands. Katja Weickmann and Udo Gattenlöhner (GNF) presented the new exhibition and the accompanying brochure, which shows the most important wetlands in Germany. The focus was also on young commitment to wetlands and the history and future of the Biological Station itself.
The RAMSAR brochure on the exhibition is available to download free of charge. Soon there will also be a accessible version of the brochure will also be available. You can order printed copies of the brochure here: Ramsar brochure
