EU taxonomy
Not only the real economy, but also the financial sector has a significant impact on biodiversity and the climate through the investments it makes or the loans it grants to companies. With the Green Deal, the EU Commission is pursuing the goal of making economic activities more sustainable and steering financial flows in favor of climate and environmental protection. The EU taxonomy has a key role to play here: as a central building block, it clearly defines the term ‘sustainability’ and creates concrete assessment criteria for it.
In the project “Investments in forest and biodiversity conservation – developments and trends”, we analyzed the EU taxonomy in the forest sector and informed companies and financial stakeholders about the regulation. We critically discussed the technical assessment criteria and the transformation potential of the taxonomy.
