We use innovative nature-based solutions for efficient, ecological drinking water and wastewater treatment in rural regions of Latin America. and thus improve the living and hygiene situation of the rural population.
In rural areas of Mexico and Colombia, a lack of wastewater disposal and
pollution affects water quality and the health of the population. We improve water quality and living conditions by building rainwater collection systems, sanitation and constructed wetlands. These nature-based solutions are particularly well-suited for remote areas without central infrastructure, as they are cost-effective and require little maintenance.
The filters use locally available plant species, do not require electricity and bind CO2. Local capacities for operation, maintenance and sustainable use of water resources are strengthened. A transnational exchange promotes the transfer of knowledge on technologies and best practices in ecological wastewater treatment. We specifically involve local communities in planning and implementation in order to strengthen their skills in sustainable water management.

Goals
Four constructed wetlands and several rainwater harvesting systems will be installed and adapted to local conditions to provide water and treat wastewater in a sustainable manner.
50 local stakeholders are trained in the operation, maintenance, and management of the systems and actively take on responsibility.
2. Obligations regarding the use and maintenance of nature-based systems are set forth in Sicará and reinforce responsibility for operation and use at the municipal level.
The first international exchange will take place in Mexico and will promote knowledge sharing, networking, and the replication ofthe facilities.
