The International German Gymnastics Festival Leipzig 2025 sends out a strong signal for sustainability in sport. As part of the fairness campaign “Sport Fairändert – Unser Verein, unsere Werte. For a fair future”, an ideas competition has been launched to encourage sports clubs to develop innovative projects for more social and ecological commitment in the area of textile products.
The competition is aimed at all registered gymnastics clubs and includes the categories Sustainable textile procurement in the club, Innovation and creativity in dealing with used textiles and Awareness raising and education. Clubs can take part in one or all categories and present their creative solutions for a more sustainable future in sport. A jury of experts from the fields of sustainable fashion, textile production, sport and social responsibility will evaluate the submitted projects based on criteria such as sustainability, creativity and reach. The 40 winners will each receive 12 sports shirts made of 100% Lyocell – an innovative, environmentally friendly material made from wood fibers from sustainably managed European forests – as a prize and will be publicly awarded at the gymnastics festival in Leipzig.
The fairness campaign for this year’s gymnastics festival is being implemented together with the Global Nature Fund and supported by FEMNET e.V. as part of the “Fair Wear Works” project. The campaign is sponsored by ENGAGEMENT GLOBAL on behalf of the BMZ, the German Postcode Lottery and Fairtrade Germany.
“We want to strengthen the purchasing managers of the associations as part of a global movement for more sustainability,” explains Bettina Faust, project manager at Fair Wear Works.
Kati Brenner, OC Managing Director of the International German Gymnastics Festival, adds: “With this competition, the Leipzig 2025 Gymnastics Festival is underlining its commitment to sustainability and inviting all participating sports clubs to get creative and submit their ideas for a fair and sustainable future.”
