Inspiring for Biodiversity

Empowerment of European Citizens for Action through Education on Biodiversity

In the past few years, climate change and the environment have become important topics of discussion in Europe. However, studies show how little people still know about the importance of biodiversity and its value to the environment. In the past three years, the Global Nature Fund and 5 other European partners have been developing 30 innovative Pedagogical Tools to help Inspire people for Biodiversity.

Below you can download the Common Report, that presents the state of the art in six European countries as well as the Pedagogical programme, that explains the method and strategy used to develop the pedagogical material:

Biodiversity and business and employees (GNF)

This toolkit aims to reach businesses and employees. We developed specific tools for companies to use the role as important ambassadors for biodiversity. This includes raising the potential of people working in companies, who already care for both biodiversity and environmental issues, and help the companies themselves to improve their practices towards biodiversity.

Biodiversity and Consumers (Global2000)

This toolkit aims to reach consumers, with a focus especially on the consumption of food. As food consumption has a strong relation to everyday life, it is very easy to relate to consuming decisions taking place even on a daily basis. Furthermore, food production and production of other bio resources have the highest impact on land use & land cover change and hence also generate a huge pressure on biodiversity.

Biodiversity and Human Settlements (Urban and Rural) (Ekopolis)

This toolkit aims to promote biodiversity and green infrastructure in human settlements. The tools want to promote the importance of biodiversity in human settlements as an opportunity to make them a better place for living, especially in relation to adaptation to climate change and by making the environment generally less vulnerable and with improved (natural) aesthetics.

Biodiversity for Local People as End Beneficiaries (LBDCA)

This toolkit aims to promote better practices in a touristic region such as Lake Balaton in Hungary and help to reduce the impact that human activities have on the local biodiversity.

Biodiversity via Ecosystem Services (Peipsi)

This toolkit aims to increase biodiversity awareness through promoting the importance of ecosystem services. Ecosystem Services concept attempts to translate the benefits we receive from nature into economic terms, so people can better understand the trade-offs we are making between nature and economic development.

Biodiversity for Nature Lovers (ETNA)

This toolkit aims to improve the knowledge of nature lovers, in order to make them aware of their impact on biodiversity as well as empower them to lead a change in the society. The ultimate goal would be turning the average citizen into someone who likes, values, and therefore cares for nature.
