Global value chains depend on functioning ecosystems &#8211; for raw materials, fertile soils, water and stable climate conditions, for example. At the same time, economic activities contribute significantly to biodiversity loss. This gives rise to environmental and economic risks such as supply bottlenecks, rising costs, regulatory requirements and reputational and liability risks.<\/p>\n<p>This is particularly evident in the food and textile industries. The food industry is directly dependent on intact ecosystems, as agriculture requires healthy soil, water and pollinators. The textile industry, on the other hand, causes a variety of biodiversity risks, for example through cotton cultivation, chemicals, microplastics and high water consumption.
