We protect the mangrove ecosystem on the Rio <\/span>Sin\u00fa<\/span> in Colombia by creating alternative income opportunities for the local population. Through the <\/span>Reforestation and the <\/span>introduction of new strategies <\/span>for <\/span>utilizing the ecosystem <\/span>will improve the living conditions <\/span>of the fishing communities in the long term<\/span>.<\/p>\n

The population along the Sin\u00fa River in northern Colombia is highly dependent on the ecosystem services provided by the mangroves. Fishing and the use of mangrove forests for domestic and commercial purposes form the region’s main economic foundation and provide a livelihood for many families. However, the overuse of natural resources and the growing impacts of climate change are putting pressure on both food security and the livelihoods of the local population. At the same time, limited water resources make it difficult for households to access clean water and for agricultural production.<\/p>\n

Through this project, we are helping to protect the critically endangered mangrove ecosystem while also improving the living conditions and future prospects of local communities.<\/p>\n
