The Canindey\u00fa region is the third largest soy and meat producer in Paraguay. The economy is growing, but at the same time 75 percent of small farming families live below the poverty line with an annual income of around USD 1,500 per year. Indigenous communities earn even lower incomes. In contrast, the country has lost 85 percent of its forest area in the last 60 years, mainly to establish agricultural and livestock farms. This has led to a decline in various ecosystem services, loss of soil quality and biodiversity and a reduced quality of life for many rural communities. <\/strong><\/p>\n

With this project, we offer small farmers and indigenous people concrete, alternative sources of income such as the sustainable model of yerba mate production, preserve natural resources such as the \u00a0remanents of the Atlantic rainforest of Alto Paran\u00e1 and improve the quality of life of the inhabitants.<\/p>\n
