We protect the unique nature of Lake Hovsgol through sustainable use. Nomadic families create additional sources of income and thus reduce their dependence on livestock farming. Tourists gain valuable insights into the untouched nature and culture of the region.
Based on the results of the previous project, we are establishing sustainable tourism at Lake Hovsgol and expanding it through regional added value. We are improving waste management, expanding environmental education to the Alag Erdene Soum, and developing a concept for the proper disposal of wild landfills. A training program for the nomadic population enables dthem to work in tourist accommodations, so-called ger camps. A yak milk cooperative is being strengthened to market products to tourism businesses. In addition, a greenhouse cooperative is being established to produce vegetables. These measures create income, reduce the import of labor and products, and promote regional added value. By adapting the Green Star certification (a sustainability seal for the ger camps) and networking, the results are secured in the long term.
