Wetlands in focus at the IUCN World Conservation Congress 2025

IUCN World Conservation Congress

Under the motto “Powering transformative conservation”, the international environmental community is meeting at the IUCN World Conservation Congress 2025 in Abu Dhabi, UAE. In the face of the escalating climate and biodiversity crisis and growing global challenges, it is clear that conventional approaches are no longer enough. Immediate, collective, transformative and innovative action is needed.

Wetlands are truly multi-talented: they are climate protectors, water suppliers and treasure troves of biodiversity. That is why partners of the international Living Lakes Network have introduced two Motions 023 & 024 into the IUCN Congress process to permanently prioritize the protection and restoration of wetlands on international agendas. The protection and restoration of these vital ecosystems – is key to tackling the climate and biodiversity crisis.

The GNF and its partners will participate in the congress as part of the IKI Living Lakes Biodiversity and Climate Project.
