Press invitation from the Global Nature Fund (GNF) and BUND Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
The Global Nature Fund (GNF) and the Network Living Lakes Germany (NLSD) invite you to the award ceremony for Lake Crivitz as “Living Lake of the Year” 2024.
The award ceremony will take place on Friday, 21.06.2024 at 11:45 am at the Gymnasium Am Sonnenberg in Crivitz. The award is a recognition of the work on the ground to restore the lake habitat.
A piece of German history is hidden beneath the surface of Lake Crivitz: According to eyewitness accounts, weapons, explosive devices of various kinds and probably entire vehicles were dumped in the 37-hectare lake after the end of the Second World War – with devastating consequences for the ecosystem. The untreated wastewater discharged during the GDR era made the situation even worse.
Citizens’ initiatives have been campaigning for the renaturation of the lake for years, and the founding of the ‘ ZU NEUEN UFERN ‘ association is planned for this year. The association will unite the citizens’ initiatives and take over the planning of the renaturation process and a socio-cultural development concept for the lake and the region, with active citizen participation and the involvement of various experts.
The following program is planned for the period from 11:45 to 13:30:
- Welcome from the host: Gymnasium am Sonnenberg Crivitz, school management
- Living Lake Network Germany & Living Lake Campaign: Katja Weickmann, Global Nature Fund, Michael Bender, Green League

We look forward to seeing you!
