Dear GNF-Supporters,
News about forest fires, pollution of water bodies and water shortages are everywhere. The "Threatened Lake of the Year 2023", Lake Titicaca, where we are currently involved with our large Living Lakes Biodiversity and Climate Project, is also affected: its water level is approaching a dangerous record low, the Quinoa harvest in the region has dropped by 90 percent according to media reports.
But we also have good news: in our reforestation project in India's Western Ghats, we are planting 55,000 tree seedlings by the end of the year, which will not only help wildlife and the microclimate, but also create a sustainable source of income for the local population. Our project manager Thies Geertz recently traveled to the Western Ghats and reports on his impressions in this newsletter - a great project that would not be possible without your help.
Enjoy the read,
