Dear supporters of the GNF,

The disastrous decision of Russia to invade Ukraine knows first of all only victims and losers: We feel with the peaceful people in Ukraine, whose homeland is destroyed, who had to flee and who have to mourn many injured and dead. And in Russia, many people are suffering under the sanctions and the country has already sacrificed thousands of young men to a pointless war.

However, there is also an opportunity in the united solidarity of peaceful states and the claim to be free from despotic control over fossil energy sources. And it gives me hope that there are more and more initiatives worldwide for a sustainable coexistence of mankind and nature.

In our current newsletter you can get insights into new GNF projects in Mexico, Burundi and Paraguay. Furthermore, I would like to recommend our current Annual Report 2021 to you: This is 48 pages packed with information about global engagement for a better future.

We have little choice but to remain confident with one another. A heartfelt thank you for your support!

All the best,

Udo Gattenlöhner

The Lake of Superlatives is Suffering

On World Wetlands Day, together with the Living Lakes network, we named Lake Malawi "Threatened Lake of the Year 2022": The unique ecosystem is in imminent danger.

The Dümmer provides a home for a variety of rare marsh and water birds.

Shallow Lake with Great Diversity

On the occasion of World Water Day, we have chosen the Dümmer as the "German Living Lake of the Year 2022": The second largest lake in Lower Saxony is the habitat of numerous animal and plant species, some of which are rare.
